The City of Paramount has expanded its team of environmental specialists: Tetra Tech has been hired to assist the City’s ongoing response to the hexavalent chromium concerns that were discovered in November 2016 by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). Tetra Tech is a leading environmental consulting firm with expertise in air, water, and soil matters. As new questions about water quality and soil contamination have arisen out of the initial air quality issue, the engagement of Tetra Tech is a move to bring in professionals who are skilled in these additional areas.
“The City needs to strengthen our understanding of environmental matters so we can be a stronger partner to other regulatory agencies,” said Daryl Hofmeyer, Mayor for the City of Paramount. “Tetra Tech has a history of working with the City’s water utility, having helped us with various projects and facilities such as our wells and treatment equipment and our water master plans. They also have broad experience with many other agencies analyzing soil and air quality. So they are a natural partner for us. We will rely on their holistic knowledge of environmental matters to guide our efforts in addressing overall environment quality in our community and working in partnership with other regulatory agencies.”
Tetra Tech is a premier provider of consulting, engineering, scientific, and technical services to support local, state, and federal government clients as well as commercial clients. They work together to provide innovative solutions focused on water, the environment, infrastructure, resource management, and energy. Headquartered in Pasadena, California, the company celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016.
Key members of the Tetra Tech team who will support the City include:
Brian Jordan has 20 years of experience on a variety of environmental and infrastructure programs throughout North America with a particular focus on projects integrating the built, natural, and social environments with a design reflecting the input of the local community. Dr. Eddy Huang is one of Tetra Tech’s air quality experts and has more than 30 years of diverse air quality experience, including air quality research, air quality monitoring, air quality mitigation measures, air sampling and analysis, emissions inventory, health risk assessment, innovative clean air technologies, permit processing, and pollution prevention.
Randy Westhause has an expertise in environmental management and has over 35 years of experience managing multidisciplinary environmental projects involving compliance audits, spill, prevention, pollution prevention, waste minimization, water quality, environmental audits and permitting, remedial investigations, and risk management programs.
Miguel Luna is a leader in social and environmental justice communication issues with underserved and monolingual (Spanish-speaking) communities. He is a Principal at DakeLuna Consultants and he specializes in cultivating relationships among residents, their community-based organizations, businesses, elected officials, environmental organizations, academia, and government agencies. He is sought after and respected locally, regionally, and statewide for his expertise in working with diverse communities.
Given the depth and resources of the team at Tetra Tech, Paramount will have the ability to call upon a full range of additional experts in air, water, and soil environmental matters when required.
