Your Guide to a Zero-Waste Holiday

This holiday season, let’s embrace joy and sustainability together, Paramount! Here are some easy ways to make your festivities greener while spreading cheer:

Tips for a Green Holiday Season:

  • Choose Recyclable Wrapping Paper: Avoid glitter and foil, and opt for fabric gift bags, newspapers, or plain paper bags instead.
  • Use Reusable Food Containers: Store leftovers in Tupperware or similar reusable containers rather than clingwrap, foil, or disposable plates.
  • Create DIY Gifts: Homemade presents like baked goods, candles, or personalized crafts are thoughtful and help reduce packaging waste.
  • Send Digital Holiday Cards: Share your greetings via email or social media to cut down on paper waste while keeping the holiday spirit alive.
  • Decorate with Nature: Use materials like pinecones, branches, or dried oranges for eco-friendly decorations that can be composted or reused after the season.

Recycle Your Holiday Tree

Keep the season sustainable by recycling your real holiday tree with Athens Services. Recycled trees are turned into nutrient-rich compost for agriculture, public parks, and landscaping. Athens will collect trees for free from December 26, 2024, through January 15, 2025.

Here’s how to prepare your tree for recycling:

  • Remove all lights, ornaments, tree skirts, and tinsel.
  • Cut trees taller than 7 feet into smaller sections.
  • Place your tree next to your trash bin on your regular collection day.

Missed the collection window? No problem! Schedule a bulky-item pick-up at AthensServices.com/Bulky or call (888) 336-6100.
