SCAQMD Removal of Air Monitor Near Lubeco

South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has removed the air quality monitor located near Lubeco Inc. The monitor’s last testing day was Wednesday, August 14, 2019.

Lubeco’s facility is located at 6859 Downey Ave. in Long Beach near the southern border of Paramount, and is subject to the permitting requirements, rules and regulations of SCAQMD.

Lubeco was under a Stipulated Order for Abatement which ended on December 1, 2018, and the decision to remove the air monitors comes after two years of monitoring where readings from the monitor have shown less than 1 nanogram (ng) per cubic meter of hexavalent chromium emissions for six consecutive months. Lubeco’s cooperation and proactive implementation of measures required in the Stipulated Order for Abatement to reduce hexavalent chromium emissions also contributed to SCAQMD’s decision to remove the site monitor.

Lubeco’s mitigation work includes the removal of certain tanks containing hexavalent chromium, modification of certain practices at the facility, and the development of a risk reduction plan containing all feasible measures for reducing these emissions from the facility. SCAQMD will continue the enforcement of permitting requirements, rules and regulations.
