SCAQMD Hosts Town Hall Meeting on Special Air Monitoring and Investigation in Paramount

On Tuesday, June 13 from 6PM to 8PM, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) will provide an update on the special air monitoring and investigations related to hexavalent chromium emissions from metal processing facilities in the City of Paramount. The investigation has also included measurements of outdoor levels of hexavalent chromium near local schools. Residents will have the opportunity to provide input and talk with SCAQMD staff.

SCAQMD found last fall that Aerocraft Heat Treating Company and Anaplex Corporation were the source of high levels of hexavalent chromium in outdoor air through an intensive and fast-paced investigation. Both facilities are currently under SCAQMD Orders for Abatement and have reduced their emissions.

SCAQMD has worked closely with officials from the City of Paramount, County of Los Angeles, California Department of Toxic Substances Control, Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and others, as well as elected representatives at the city, county, state, and federal levels throughout this entire effort to reduce hexavalent chromium emissions in Paramount.

The Town Hall will take place at the Paramount Community Center, 14400 Paramount Boulevard.
