Residential Air Purifier Filtration and HVAC Filter Rebate Program Goes Into Effect

The City of Paramount’s Residential Air Purifier Filtration and HVAC Filter Rebate Program is now in effect. The program is designed to aid residents in buying “True HEPA” indoor air purifiers or HVAC filters. The rebate will reimburse up to $100 of the estimated $150-$250 cost of the units and $50 for the cost of the filters. On average, filters cost $50.

Purifiers and filters can easily be purchased online or in many department and hardware stores.

Due to the City’s location near major transportation routes and ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, the program was proposed as a part of the City’s efforts to address air quality issues within the community.

“True HEPA” air purifiers capture up to 99.97% of particles and can also filter detectible odors. They range in size from 22×20 in. to 13×13 in., comfortably fitting in any size room. Household HVAC filters effectively capture potentially harmful air particles.

To qualify for the rebate, you must be a Paramount resident AND have a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) of at least 13. The rebate is available one time per household for either an air purifier unit or HVAC filter. You must submit an online application with a copy of the receipt within 60 days of the purchase date.

Further restrictions apply. Community Development Department staff will review the application prior to the Paramount resident being issued the rebate.

Rebates are issued on a first-come, first served basis.

Edit 11/29/18: As of today, 85 participants have initiated the rebate request and are at various stages of the application process. Checks have been issued to 44 participants who have completed the process and been approved.
