South Coast AQMD Temporarily Suspends Hexavalent Chromium Monitoring in Paramount

The City of Paramount has been informed that, due to COVID-19, South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has temporarily suspended monitoring of hexavalent chromium, an airborne industrial chemical regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

“COVID-19 has affected every aspect of our lives, and our partner agencies have also felt the impacts. We expect SCAQMD to resume monitoring when COVID-19 conditions improve,” said Paramount City Manager John Moreno.

The City recognizes the challenges that SCAQMD is facing as a result of COVID-19 public health concerns, and assures residents that all necessary measures are being taken to protect the environmental health and safety of the Paramount community.

To stress how important it is to the City that the monitors return as soon as possible, Mayor Peggy Lemons recently sent a letter to the Chairman of the SCAQMD Governing Board on the topic. To see the letter, please click here.
