City Stays Up-to-Date on AB 617 Efforts

The City of Paramount submitted an application for the Assembly Bill (AB) 617 program last year to assist communities adjacent to industrial areas and freeways. Though the City was not selected to take part, staff have continued attending meetings hosted by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) to stay updated on the process.

The key elements of AB 617 are community air monitoring, plans for emissions reduction, easier access to emissions data, and clean technology investments. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) selected communities in the State for the first year of the pilot program; more communities will be added every year.

SCAQMD has been hosting a series of meetings for its AB 617 Steering Committee and the public to provide input on the development of Community Air Monitoring Plans and Community Emission Reduction Plans implemented through the bill.

Paramount staff will continue attending these meetings and learning more about the program. SCAQMD has scheduled the City for the second or third year of program funding.
