SCAQMD will host two public meetings on Saturday, December 1 at Progress Park to discuss health risk assessments for — and risk reduction efforts by — Anaplex Corp. and Aerocraft Heat Treating Co., Inc.
The City was contacted by SCAQMD about a high reading and told that, in this unique instance, SCAQMD did not implement a curtailment (i.e. shut down) of Anaplex’s operations.
SCAQMD today ordered Anaplex Corporation to temporarily curtail all operations and processes emitting hexavalent chromium.
SCAQMD hosted a Town Hall meeting on June 20, 2018 at the Paramount Park Community Center to provide an update on the agency’s air monitoring efforts in the City.
Because the hexavalent chromium levels have been declining slowly and are now within the typical levels, the City recently learned that SCAQMD will be reducing the size and frequency of sampling for its monitoring network in Paramount to focus on other areas that have higher potential for air toxics exposure.
On Monday, February 26, Anaplex Corporation was ordered to curtail its operations by SCAQMD after air monitors found hexavalent chromium levels over the 1.0 ng/m3 threshold.
This is the third time SCAQMD has ordered Anaplex to curtail its operations since the Hearing Board adopted its order. The company previously curtailed work in February and June.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has published findings on soil samples taken near two businesses identified as emitting high levels of hexavalent chromium in the City of Paramount: Anaplex Corporation and Aerocraft Heat Treating.
On July 22, Anaplex Corporation was ordered to shut down all metal processing equipment and operations with the potential to emit hexavalent chromium.
