The City of Paramount continues to implement strategies outlined in its Climate Action Plan. The most recent effort includes its approval to proceed with Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Charge Ready Program, which would provide the City with 10 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports at Paramount Park and another 12 at Progress Park.
Launched in July 2021, the Charge Ready Program has assisted business and property owners with deploying the infrastructure and equipment necessary to support EV charging stations at multi-family buildings and public sector and business locations. Through the program, SCE provides all electrical infrastructure work and installation of charging stations, while participants only need to furnish the charging equipment units and their ongoing maintenance. Ultimately, the program aims to create a vehicle-charging infrastructure with more than 38,000 new charging stations installed around the region.
The establishment of EV charging stations at these two City parks aligns with strategies stated in the City’s Climate Action Plan, emphasizing Paramount’s ambition to increase the number of EV charging stations throughout town and promote zero emissions.
The City currently has two charging stations with a total of four ports for public use at City Hall and the Sheriff’s Station. Additionally, the City has several more stations coming soon for its zero emissions fleet and is actively looking for other opportunities–like the SCE Charge Ready Program–to further Climate Action Plan goals.
