The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) temporarily resumed its air quality monitoring in July 2021after a brief hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions. The monitoring resumed at select industrial and school sites throughout Paramount while the City searched for a contractor to permanently fulfill the role.
With expertise and guidance from the SCAQMD, the City reviewed the qualifications of three highly experienced firms that submitted proposals. On September 21, 2021, the City Council unanimously voted to award a contract for air monitoring services to T and B Systems. T and B Systems’ brings years of experience in providing high-quality air monitoring services. For the next year, T and B Systems will take air samples in five locations throughout the City to monitor levels of hexavalent chromium.
Over the last three months, air quality samples have indicated hexavalent chromium levels remain below thresholds set by SCAQMD. Despite regular air monitoring in Paramount over the last several years, contracted air monitoring services bring an unconventional approach for a City.
“Paramount continues to go above and beyond to ensure our environment remains safe and clean for our community,” said Mayor Brenda Olmos. “Hiring T and B Systems to continue voluntary air monitoring reaffirms the City’s commitment to transparency and the health and safety of the Paramount community.”
T and B Systems is currently setting up the monitors and will provide monitoring services on a weekly basis. For updates related to air quality monitoring results, visit ParamountEnvironment.org.
