In March 2018, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) began a new project to take real-time measurements of the air quality within the City of Paramount. This project utilized vans that measures for various pollutants, including hexavalent chromium.
The City partnered with SCAQMD for this effort by sharing its street-sweeping schedule. In addition to monitoring ambient air, SCAQMD took samples of the air displaced by the City’s street sweepers.
Both results will provide a comprehensive view of ambient air quality in Paramount. SCAQMD reports that they have not detected any readings that would cause concern at this time. The agency will release an official report in the coming months.
