On February 22, 2017, the State Water Resources Control Board announced the launch of its Human Right to Water Portal, a public website detailing information and efforts to ensure that every Californian has access to safe, clean, and affordable drinking water. With data on more than 3,000 community, school, and day care public water systems in the state, the website lets users look up their water systems and see whether they comply with federal drinking water standards.
The City of Paramount can be found in this database by searching for the city name or under the Water System Number “CA1910105.” The system has not been cited with any violation of the primary drinking water standards since the State Water Board began researching this data in 2012. Paramount’s water system is in compliance with the State’s requirements; these results have been reinforced with every test conducted on the water supply.
The new portal additionally provides information about water systems that are currently out-of-compliance with the State’s Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for hexavalent chromium, as well as systems that have an approved hexavalent chromium compliance plan in accordance with Senate Bill (SB) 385. These non-compliant systems make up a small subset of the total number of drinking water systems in California; moreover, none of those systems are located in proximity to Paramount.
The City’s water supply remains safe and in compliance. Backed by the new Human Right to Water portal, residents and community members will be able to check the status of their water system and can rest assured that their drinking water is clean. Further, the City will continue to test for hexavalent chromium in the water supply on a monthly basis to ensure the public’s safety.
