In early January, Paramount residents were invited to apply to serve as participants with the City’s Air Quality Sub Committee. Out of thirteen applicants, three community members were selected: Mauricio Hernandez, Jacklyn Avila, and Guillermo Parga.
Thirteen members of the Paramount community applied to join the Air Quality Sub Committee. In the following weeks, each applicant will undergo the interview process with the current committee members and participants.
The City of Paramount has expanded its team of environmental specialists: Tetra Tech has been hired to assist the City’s ongoing response to the hexavalent chromium concerns that were discovered in November 2016.
The City of Paramount and the State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Drinking Water have completed a special round of testing to validate that hexavalent chromium is undetected in the City’s water supply. The State of California standard for hexavalent chromium is 10 parts per billion.
At the December 20 meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Janice Hahn, who represents the Fourth District and the City of Paramount, introduced a motion related to the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s (AQMD) recently announced discovery of elevated levels of hexavalent chromium in the City.

The City of Paramount has launched a new community resource website for information about environmental quality concerns in town. The website, located at paramountenvironment.org, is a centralized source of information, updates, and links to primary data sources designed to help consolidate answers on a range of questions.
The City of Paramount’s Air Quality Sub Committee was formed at the beginning of December 2016 with the intention of keeping residents informed on the latest issues regarding South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) activity in town and bringing the entire community together as a team to address these issues.
